English guided tours with Alisa Smith
The tour starts in our main building in the Karmelitergasse 1 with the highlights of our museum: from the hand axe from Bergen-Enkheim, the Hallstatt period ceremonial tomb from the Frankfurt city forest, the Iupiter columns from Nida and the surrounding area to the “Heiliggrabaltar” from the church of St. Leonhard. The tour spans a wide range from the early Stone Age to modern times and provides an overview of Frankfurt's eventful history.
The tour ends at the former archaeological garden on the cathedral hill with the oldest preserved remains of buildings in Frankfurt, today know as the “KAISERPFALZ franconofurd”, the imperial palace franconofurd. Protected by the “Stadthaus am Markt”, it offers a window into the origins of the city of Frankfurt: a Roman bath, the walls of the Carolingian royal court, late medieval cellars – traces from around 2000 years of the city’s history!
