Guided tours to Archaeology and History
(in German only)

The guided tour conveys the story of the Carmelites in Frankfurt as well as the architectural history of the church and monastery. The excavations in the Carmelite church play an important role. This monastery for mendicant monks had an important function as burial site for Frankfurt's patricians and various Brotherhoods. The chapel of the Brotherhood of St Anne is architecturally outstanding and it has been possible to expose numerous graves in its burial vault. Besides sacred objects laid in the graves, archaeologists found an abundant treasure trove of coins sewn into a shroud. The tour ends with the important wall-paintings by Jörg Ratgeb in the cloister and refectorium.
